A Boost is born
Boost Juice Bars offer a healthy alternative to fast food, which is encompassed in a brand perceived to be 'cool' by young customers. The menu offers more than 30 delicious juices, smoothies and crushes which were all developed with the assistance of a nutritionist, and all are at least 98% fat free and free from artificial flavours or colourings.
The Birth of Boost Juice Bars
After a visit to the US in 2000, Janine Allis, Boost's founder and Managing Director, recognized a hole in the Australian market for a healthy fast food alternative. As a consumer she had always struggeled to find anything healthy to eat andd drink for herself and her young sons when she was short of time. So she developed a business plan and raised $250.000 through friends investing in the concept to get the plan underway.
Janine consulted with a nutritionist and naturopaths to create a menu of healthy juices and smoothies that were free of preservatives, artificial flavours and colours. She worked with an Australian manufacturer to develop a range of 'TD4' (To Die For!) low fat frozen yoghurts to use in smoothies, which contain live cultures streptococcus thermophilis and lactobacillus delbruekil for added nutritional benefits.
The first Boost Juice Bar opened in South Australia in 2000 and the brand commenced franchising in 2001. At the time, Boost was the only juice bar brand to grow very big very quickly; when Boost had reached the 100 store milestone in 2004, the nearest competitor, Vivia Juice, had 24 stores, and in August of that year Boost acquired the Viva chain to take the total number of Boost Juice Bars to 124. The brand commenced an international expansion plan in 2004, and today there are more than 200 Boost Juice Bars in over 10 countries throughout the world, across South America, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and South Africa.
